1. > Cause beneficial turbulence in the water column by displacing more water with  each bubble that is released
2. > Create more contact between decomposing bacteria and excess nutrients that cause pond algae growth and other water quality problems
3. > Initiate a drafting effect that pulls water and loose pond muck up from beneath the MARS Aerator and into the water column where it can be broken down, therefore decreasing muck buildup
